They show how they can have long-term effects on society, the economy and politics. People are looking back at past crises and trying to learn from them to deal with current disasters, and are now looking at how societies have dealt with and recovered from disasters. Digital tools are very useful for finding out about the history of disasters and their impact on people. Our database provides access to different types of historical records while our digital approach can highlight trends that may be overlooked by traditional methods. This also shows how technology can be used to understand natural disasters in the Global South.
